Among the patients at Taihe Hospital, we randomly selected 28 who suffer from migraine. Moreover, 27 healthy subjects were randomly selected via advertising. As part of the diagnostic process, every patient underwent the Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS), the Headache Impact Test – 6 (HIT-6), and a 15-minute MRI. A prior glaucoma diagnosis and several months of successfully managed intraocular pressure (IOP) were not sufficient to prevent a 74-year-old Mexican female from exhibiting an acute ocular hypertensive crisis during her appointment. Ceria nanoparticles, distinguished amongst the examined catalytic/enzyme-mimetic nanomaterials, possess a unique capability for scavenging biologically harmful free radicals, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), achieved through both enzymatic mimicry and non-enzymatic pathways. Various approaches have been undertaken to utilize ceria nanoparticles' inherent self-regenerating properties as effective anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory agents, addressing the harmful effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) in various diseases. From this perspective, this review serves to present an overview of the features that make ceria nanoparticles of interest in treating diseases. At the outset, the introductory section expounds on the distinctive features of ceria nanoparticles, specifically their nature as an oxygen-deficient metal oxide. Subsequently, the pathophysiological functions of ROS and RNS, alongside the scavenging actions of ceria nanoparticles, will be presented. Recent ceria nanoparticle-based therapies are presented, organized by organ and disease type, leading to a discussion of outstanding challenges and future research initiatives.
