Several central mediators have been proposed including prostaglandins E2 (PGE2) and F2α (PGF2α) (Coelho et al., 1993 and Milton, 1989), corticotrophin releasing factor (CRF) (Rothwell, 1989 and Zampronio et al., 2000), endothelin-1 (ET-1) (Fabricio et al., 1998), endogenous opioids (Benamar et al., 2000 and Fraga et al., 2008), endocannabinoids (Fraga et al., 2009) and also substance P (SP) (Blatteis et al., 1994). Among these, prostaglandins derived from both peripheral and central sources appear to be important (Ivanov et al., 2003 and Steiner et al., 2006).
